Director of Development

Forest Forward is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that partners with the community to drive equitable development, economic mobility, and improve outcomes for children, residents, and families of the South Dallas community. 

Forest Forward was launched in 2020, and over the past year has experienced a wonderful period of growth and impact. To continue on this trajectory, we’re searching for a highly qualified Development Director to work closely with our development and executive team. From day one, the Development Director will have an immediate impact on our fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of experience in fundraising and development, and will demonstrate a proven track record of achieving $3 million annually in funding from corporations, public and private foundations, as well as individuals. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Direct the overall scope of Forest Forward’s fundraising activities from individuals, foundations, corporations and government entities, which include major gifts, sponsorships, memberships, special events, annual campaigns and capital campaigns. 
  • Increase donor retention, grow the existing funder base, and identify and cultivate prospects. 
  • Advance and implement strategies to increase donor engagement and giving, including direct mail campaigns, online giving, donor cultivation events, and sponsor benefit packages. 
  • Prepare and deliver compelling communications, proposals, presentations, and fundraising materials to communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and funding priorities to donors, prospects, and board members. 
  • Connect with donors and prospects through meetings and events to facilitate personalized donor interactions and a sense of community to ensure donor engagement growth and satisfaction. 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Advancement and Revenue Officer and stakeholders to leverage social networks, expertise, and resources to optimize fundraising efforts and donor relations. 
  • Practice ethical philanthropy and sponsorship standards in compliance with regulations. • Maintain accurate records of prospects, donations, pledges, sponsorships, engagement activities and other pertinent transactions, within the organization’s CRM and Program Management databases on behalf of the Chief Advancement and Revenue Department. 
  • Perform database reporting on fundraising KPIs, benchmarks and progress for executive leadership planning and decision making. • Plan and facilitate event logistics for fundraising events. 

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Proven track record raising $3 million dollars annually. 
  • Experience with complex proposal writing for institutional donors. 
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. 
  • Strong editing skills. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources. 
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies. 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research. 
  • Strong contributor in team environments. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience. 
  • 5+ years of combined experience in fundraising and event planning. 
  • Experience with Network for Good or a similar donor database system. 
  • Proficient with MS Office and Drobox. 
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form. 
  • Versatile and dedicated to efficient productivity. 

Additional Information 

This position will require evening and weekend work 10% of the calendar year, in conjunction with major performances and other special events.
